This weekend was quite lovely for several reasons. We got a very peaceful dusting of snow in Indianapolis, It was the 1st weekend of Devour Indy and I was lucky to spend it with the wonderful women of Indy Hip Chic! We decided to try Chapati, a local Indian restaurant on the west side of Indy. I have personally never had Indian food before so this was going to be interesting.
The restaurant is located in a small strip mall near West 52nd Street and Lafayette Road. When you walk in you are welcomed to a bright restaurant with modern décor, furniture, and artwork. I appreciated the combination of a more hip atmosphere with mostly R&B music in the background. There is a Ping-Pong table on the left by the front door. There is also a couple seating areas where patrons can play a game of Carrom.
We ordered our food at the counter and chose a seat a large wooden table as we had several people with us for Family Friday. I ordered Aloo Chaat as my appetizer, Butter Chicken and Aloo Tarkari as my entrée, and Kulfi as my desert. I really appreciated the detailed descriptions of each dish provided by the restaurant, since I was such a newbie.
Chicken Tikka + Palak Paneer
Butter Chicken + Aloo Tarkari + Aloo Chaat
The presentation was great, everyone’s food looked very delicious and everyone finished his or her meals. Even though the meals themselves were light, I was very full. I like spicy food and everything I ate was full of flavor. However, I was not a huge fan of the Kulfi, but I think that was due to me not being familiar with those flavorings together. The chapati was delicious as well. I definitely would come back again!
