A few months ago my husband decided he wanted to grow his hair out. Other than when Carl was very young he has not allowed his hair to grow out more than maybe a half an inch. When we first started dating his hair was either very short or buzzed all the way down and it wasn’t until a few months into the relationship when he asked me what he should do with his hair that I realized he had a full head of beautiful curls. For the last few years, he’s been getting his hair cut short on the sides with curls on top and that’s been the extent of his hair venture so I was shocked when he asked a few months ago if he should grow his hair out. Of course having a gigantic Afro myself I was pretty excited to see what his hair would look like grown out, ya know gotta think about our future babies lol.

Currently, Carl may have a good 3 or 4  inches of hair. He has enough that he has started to dip into my headband stash to keep his hair from falling into his face. Not only does he dip into my headband stash he also dips into my natural hair products. Recently he’s found his home in my Cantu leave in conditioner. I was really excited when I learned that Cantu released a men’s line of products. Same great smell and quality just repackaged for the curly man in your life. I was able to find the entire line at our local beauty supply store, Beauty 4 U on 82nd street in Indianapolis but these products can also be found at your local Sally’s Beauty.

The line consists of a 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash, leave-in conditioner, cream pomade, beard oil, cleansing pre-shave scrub, smooth shave gel and post-shave soothing serum. I got Carl the 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash, the leave-in conditioner and cream pomade. Carl has been using the products for a little over 2 weeks and he likes them a lot.

Leave-in Conditioner

He feels the same way about this conditioner as he did about the original, he LOVES it. Carl is a very simple man so he usually just wets his hair and applies the conditioner then goes about his day. He doesn’t like products that require more than 1 or 2 steps which make the leave-in conditioner perfect for him. It leaves his curls looking very moisturized, curly and soft not to mention he smells wonderful!

Cream Pomade

Carl usually only uses the cream pomade when we are going somewhere special. He simply applies the pomade after applying the leave-in for added shine and hold. Carl is the type of guy that’s constantly running his fingers through his hair and this product definitely helps a lot with keeping his hair from getting super frizzy.

3 in 1 Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash

I think this is the only product he is not 100% sold on. Due to it being 3 in 1 the shampoo doesn’t lather as much as a normal shampoo which throws him off. He does really like this product as a body wash, though. He mentioned he always feels very clean after use and LOVES the smell.

I personally think this product is a great shampoo and conditioner combination for stubborn husbands who don’t like to follow directions. Having this product as a 3 in 1 has caused Carl to actually start washing AND conditioning his hair whereas before he was just washing his hair every 2 days. Him washing his hair that much, prior to using the 3 in 1, was really drying out his hair.  I’ve noticed now his hair looks a lot more moisturized since he’s started using the product.

Have you or the curly man in your life tried the Cantu Men’s Collection? If so how did you like it?

    1. Currently, I have my husband using the Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo, followed by the Jane Carter Moisture Nourishing Shampoo once to twice a week. He then follows up the shampoo with Mielle Babassu Oil & Mint Deep Conditioner and uses it as a regular in shower conditioner. In reality, whatever wash routine, I’m currently trying on my hair I test it out on his hair as well lol.

So far he hasn’t complained and his curls are nice and bouncy between wash days. I think it really depends on how many steps you want to take during your wash session. If you want a 1 and done product I’d suggest the Cantu shampoo from above since it’s a shampoo and conditioner, especially if you wash your hair daily, but if you want to give your hair a little extra lovin’ I’d try out the wash routine I just mentioned.
